STATIC PHASE CONVERTERS Static converters allow the starting and running of a three phase motor on single phase. Once the motor is running, the static converter automatically removes itself from the circuit and the motor continues to run on single phase at 2/3 of the Hp rating of the motor. If balanced voltages are required, then a static converter will not do the job and a rotary motor should be used. Not to be used for heavy loads or for certain types of equipment, Such as---Air compressors, hydrulic units, resisitive loads, ovens, pumps or refrigeration equipment. They also do not work well on two-speed motors or motors that are required to reverse very often. A rotary converter is needed for this type of equipment. Especially CNC/EDM equipment that require balanced voltages under load. If your equipment has a foreign (European or Asian) motor that is delta wound, then call for help on sizing the right converter. Older "U" Frame motors and high efficiency motors are others that require more then a standard static converter to operate properly. These type motors will only operate much better using a rotary phase converter. Call 1-800-549-6008 for help with these type motors. Static converters work well on equipment that are not hard starting and do not require the full hp of the motor to operate the equipment. Drill presses, small milling machines, mixers and bench grinders are just a few examples. Click here for more information on the different styles of phase converters. |
